Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Many children need to have extra support at some time during their school years. This might be for a short period of time or in some cases, maybe necessary on a long term basis.

If we are concerned about a child, either academically, socially or emotionally, we will identify and plan the additional support they need. Parents will be involved in this process right from the beginning. We have very good links with a range of other agencies and specialists and will work together and in partnership to provide the necessary support to enable the child to make progress.

Some children have English as an additional language (EAL) and speak in a different language at home. These children are given support to enable them to access the curriculum and make progress in their understanding and use of English.

Children who are particularly able or gifted are identified as having Additional Educational Needs. This may be in one specific area or in a range of subjects and teaching will be carefully matched to their individual needs.

We are committed to meeting the individual needs of all of our children to ensure that they all make good progress and achieve their potential.

Working in partnership will ensure the best outcomes for your child. Please speak to the class teacher if you have any concerns. Alternatively you can email Mrs Mitchell the school’s SENCo, at senco@durringtoninfantschool.org.uk or telephone 01980 652468.

We aim to be a fully inclusive school and have access and facilities for pupils with disabilities.

The SENCo is very happy to discuss a child’s particular needs and how these can be met at Durrington Infants.
